Saddling up at Stud Road we opted to risk the high wind forecast and see how far we could go toward Carrum, our objective, a worthwhile, long, flatland ride.
Jon, returning to the fold following his Norwegian sojourn, was welcomed back, but sadly his cycle's Delimiters refused to cooperate, so was forced to return to Base early. Lucky boy!
Lovely spring morning deluding ourselves, we pedalled out through Dandy, on to Keysborough with the occasional cycle snatch from a persistent headwind,
"Yeah, windy!"
Abruptly however, wind speed increased dramatically, then erratically as we crossed into Springvale South. Moving on to Dingley Bypass and progress impossible.
Time to consider our options!
Back to Dandy.
Now our tail wind was blowing us back to Dandy, reversing our 16.9 kph headwind slug, into a 35.1 kph return flight.
Not without its perils, as approaching Dandy's commercial precinct, all four of us, riding single file, for a few hairy seconds, suddenly found ourselves airborne, as a gust attempted a sabotage.
"Ah, coffee!" Our charming, young Barista approaches our perch under the exterior café awning. She turns to face us, as we all bear witness, to two newly brewed coffees, swept free from her hands, windborne aloft, held in the air for an instant, which seemed like an eternity, before plummeting to the ground, spilling their content into the wind, then shattering to pieces across the pavement!
We were rewarded, with new coffees from the management, for having provided entertainment with a standing ovation for the Barista.
What a day! We made it back to Base.
