A stalwart 7 took to the dirt hills via a long, secret and diverse route, concocted by Jurgen, in an plan to exhaust ourselves in an effort to get to Mary Knoll and partake of their breathtaking service and hot coffee. Success! We were exhausted. The time taken to get the hot coffee nearly rivalled the time taken to ride there. Still, it was warm, wet and welcome. Ask the girls about the toilets at Mary Knoll.
The ride back to Gembrook featured several kilometers of recently (ie 5min ago) graded dirt road. Werner's 23mm tires enjoyed that surface and by the end of the regraded section, where Wener's bike exercised its independece from the rider, Werner was stuffed.
And, so onto Gembrook via the the never ending tedium of Bessie Creek Rd. Not to accept such monotony, Helen and I choose to tackle Mt Eirene Road instead. Not sure yet if that was a good choice or not. Ask Helen. At least we were not lulled into mind numbing boredom by Bessie Creek.
So to arrive at Gembrook at 1515. Yvonne, her introduction to hills and dirt roads, was due to start work in the flatlands at 1600. 5hrs out and about on the bike then an 8hr work shift. So nice to be retired!
60km, around 1000m climbing, a worthy ride. Thanks Jurgen.
The stalwarts were ... Helen, Kirsten, Kerri, Yvonne, Jurgen, Werner, Jon.
